Tolgay Şatana was born in 1968 in Ankara. He completed his education in Ankara since primary school.
After graduating from Ankara University Faculty of Medicine in 1991, he did his compulsory service in the central health center of Kars Tuzluca. He started his post-graduation education at Gazi University Faculty of Medicine Orthopedics and Traumatology Clinic in 1992 with the TUS exam. In 1997, he was appointed to Ankara Etimesgut State Hospital as an Orthopedic Specialist. He completed his military service in Erzurum Marshal Çakmak Military Hospital in 1998-1999.
In 1999, after participating in studies on Spine Surgery – Pediatric Orthopedics in the United States Michigan State University (Spinal Cord Experimental Studies), University of Michigan Ann Arbor Orthopedics Unit for nearly 2 years, he returned home and was appointed to Gaziantep State Hospital. After working at Gaziantep American Hospital for a while, he was appointed to Ankara Training and Research Hospital, then transferred to this institution at the METU health center. He left the 12-year public service in the same institution and started working to establish the Orthopedics and Traumatology Clinic in Ankara Med-Art Medical Center.
The provision of the first endoscopic spine surgery equipment in our country at Akman Med-Art Medical Center enabled the first applications of this surgery to be performed since 2004.
After working in various private hospitals in Istanbul in 2008, he started to accept patients in his private office as a freelance physician. He worked as a founding-board member of World Laser Association (IMLAS), World-European and Asian Minimally Invasive Surgery Societies (ISMISS, PASMISS, Asian and American MISS) working in this international field. Visiting his colleagues in these associations in England, France, Germany, Italy, Brazil, Israel, Korea, Indonesia, China and Japan, he had the opportunity to work one-on-one with endoscopic spine surgery explorers.
Tolgay Şatana, known for his work in the international arena in a short time, is still on the board of directors of relevant associations as an international trainer and speaker on percutaneous endoscopic spine surgery.
He is a founding member of the associations (OMID and MINOD) established in this field in our country and continues to maintain his mission by being a member of the chairmanship and board of directors. As the creator and organizer of ISMISS Turkey congresses, Tolgay Şatana is known for his work for the dissemination of minimally invasive surgery. By coordinating six international congresses under the title of ISMISS Turkey, he brought the TURKMISS brand to training courses on Cadavers. More than 300 surgeons have been trained in Turkmiss courses since 2008, together with Ismiss Turkey congresses. 1200 physicians were certified in congresses. In addition to globalizing his studies on minimally invasive surgery by being among the founders of the World Federation, Tolgay Şatana broke new ground in this field by holding the first congress of World Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery in Istanbul in April 2014. 300 physicians were certified at the WFMISS World Congress and many firsts were achieved with the TURKMISS Cadaver Course.
Tolgay Şatana, who works in the academic field as a freelance physician in Turkey, focuses on Endoscopic Spine Surgery and continues to accept patients in all areas of Orthopedic Surgery. He developed himself in shoulder joint except knee in arthroscopic joint surgery disseminating methods. He is one of the first physicians who started arthroscopic treatments of joints such as elbow, wrist, ankle and hip joints.
While our country supports the reorganization of the health system, it continues its struggle in non-governmental organizations (Private Sector Physicians Association, Hekimder, Physician Chambers) so that the negativities in the private sector do not affect the medical profession and cause public harm.
It started to accept patients in its own private office in 2012, as the permanent work in private hospitals hinders its academic studies.
Tolgay Şatana is the father of a daughter and a son.
